Do You Like The Colts Hiring Greg Manusky As Defensive Coordinator

You all know how I feel, and based on response I'm getting via Twitter, email, and a few comments here, fans agree with my opinion. However, let's toss up a poll anyway. Do you like the Colts hiring Greg Manusky as their new DC? It's a Yes-No question. If you feel as though you want to give Manusky 'a chance' and, thus, have no opinion, then don't vote.

I'm disappointed...

…there’s no option for OH HELL FUCK NO!

Voted "yes" for 2 reasons:

1) He’s another 3-4 guy
2) He’s not Larry Coyer

I know his track record sucks, but so does the Colts defense. The fact that it looks like we’re transitioning to a 3-4 or 3-4 hybrid, and bringing in coaches to do that, is encouraging to me.

doesnt bother me

It is what it is. The key is putting talent on the field, and its going to start in the middle of that line. I feel much better once we address NT.

yards allowed

not worried about pts allowed with Manusky. his defenses were on the field all of the games with the 49ers and their shit offense and a lot of the games last yr with the chargers. yet his defenses ranked in the top half of the league in YARDS ALLOWED. is he going to be dealing with less talent here in indy? yes. but i think it was a good hire considering pagano will be watching over the D as well.

sorry

most of the game for all of the seasons with the 49ers*

Mixed

The hiring doesn’t excite me, but it doesn’t worry me too much since I figure Pagano will be the one really designing/running the defense.

To be fair...

If the Colts should not have hired Manusky as DC because his defenses seemed to be middle of the pack, than Vangio should never have gotten another NFL job again after the horrible Colts defenses he coached.

I voted "yes"

I’m not super excited about the hire, but his worst defenses were better than what the Colts have put on the field. We’ve been at the bottom of the league in D for so long, we really have nowhere to go but up.

I still think the most important hiring so far has been the new GM. It’ll be his job to make sure the highest quality players possible are wearing Colts uniforms. I’ll worry about coaching decisions when/if the new coaching staff is unable to produce positive results with better players.

I’ll reserve judgement, but his 1 year in SD doesn’t bode well for my confidence.

49ers fan here, offering up my opinion.

I was hesitant to see Greg Manusky go when Jim Harbaugh was hired. He’s a great motivator, and his scheme made San Francisco’s defense a force before it had some of the top-tier players it has now. But it IS a bend-but-don’t-break scheme that did happen to break when it was sorely needed. It was the kind of defense that you didn’t necessarily NEED to have a high-flying offense with, but it was one where a one-armed Alex Smith wasn’t able to supplement. The last five minutes of the game, even with a two-score lead were the most terrifying times ever because Manusky is a firm believe in his sub prevent and … it doesn’t work. At all. He draws up some great blitzes, but doesn’t know when to use them. He’s done wonders with linebackers in the past.

In short, I think he’s good for a rebuilding team because he’s such a good motivator and should be competent out the gate, but he has his flaws. The biggest question mark is the fact that Mike Nolan severely hampered Manusky in San Francisco, Mike Singletary had to do things his way, and San Diego is always looking for a scapegoat. Manusky WAS on the up-and-up and considered a potential head-coaching candidate before the last year or so in San Francisco.

I wouldn’t ask him back at this point, but you guys could have done so much worse.

Thanks for your insight.

I’m feeling much better about this hire now. I have to wonder which D philosophy will be featured in Indy: Pagan’s aggressive 3-4 or Manusky’s bend-don’t-break scheme, which I guess is also a 3-4?

My money would be on the head poo-bah, of course. );0)

Yes, it’s a 3-4 scheme, but like I said, he’s always loved his coverage linebackers. One thing that was always beautiful was his propensity for middle blitzes with the MIKE and TED linebackers. Maybe that was just because it was the combination of Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes doing it, but those are a thing of beauty. Probably the best thing he did.

aggressive i would think

maybe he wanted to be more aggressive in sf, but didn’t have sufficient talent. sf did add some talent this past season.

I love it.

“If you feel as though you want to give Manusky ‘a chance’ and, thus, have no opinion, then don’t vote.”

LOL! Just because someone wants to give the guy a chance doesn’t mean that one has no opinion on whether or not this was a “good hire.”

Take me for instance: I would much rather have seen someone like Mike Singletary or Spagnulo (sp?), so I’m kinda down on this hire. But like Lennon and peace, I’ll give this guy a chance.

Mike Singletary would have been a terrible option.

He’s amazing in his current role. LB coach and assistant to head coach. In other words, he can coach up a LB and motivate a bunch of people. He didn’t even gameplan for 49ers opponents, do you want him as your DC? So many people don’t realize what exactly he failed to do in San Francisco.

yes

no Singletary we’ll take Harbaugh !!!!!

Yeah, right. ;-)

You couldn’t pry Harbaugh out of SF’s hands with WD-40 and a crowbar. );0)

He's ours. For a very long time.
realize that

that was a joke

Yes, and that was a response to the joke. Lighthearted and all, don't ya know?
if u want to win the SB next yr

go get a healthy Peyton that would be a lock

if want to win the SB next yr

go get Peyton assuming he will be healthy, Alex can back up for 3 yrs then take back over

if u want to win the SB next yr

get a healthy Peyton , Alex can back him up for 3 yrs then take back over

Captain Comeback is a great coach....

But he isn’t Jesus…the media and fans are way too reactionary with superlatives or epithets or supreme failure…

SF should have been better under Singletary, they play in a bad division and are loaded with talent and are beastly in the trenches.

Basically, they are not a team that will be 12-13 wins yearly. They will have to play a 1st place schedule next year expect a 11-5 10-6 team that will be equally prepared to do damage in the playoffs. They do have a good foundation and should be a contender for years to come but will need better QB at to win it all…

Where in the world did I say he was Jesus? I said he's our coach.
The ridah can read minds

You must have thought it

Actually, yeah, I kinda do want Singletary as our DC…not so much NOW, as that ship has sailed. I always thought that when MS was hired as head coach, he hadn’t accumulated a lot of coaching xp, nor had he paid his front office/sideline dues to get the job. Now that he has a little more management xp, I think a gig as DC somewhere in the league is right up his alley.

I would hope that after his learning experience in SF, he would now know the value of game planning.

I don’t know about that. With Minnesota, he missed several team meetings and didn’t show up a few times to actual team activities. Singletary is a man set in his ways and who wants to do things his way. He’s not a guy who should lead a whole defense, in my opinion.

I have the added benefit of covering the Vikings, too lol ..

If you can call that a "benefit." LOL

Ah, see. I didn’t know any of that noise. Still think Spags would have been a better hire, but like you said earlier…we could’ve done a whole lot worse than Manusky.

Yeah. Spags had too many ties, though. He was always going to go elsewhere, regardless of the situation.
re-cycled mediocre at best

They could have done much better but maybe Pagano knows something we don’t know

well, the guy did work with pagano's brother

if he truly sucked balls i would assume his brother would have said something.

LOL
maybe Pagano knows something we don’t know

I find this quote humorous – thanks for the laugh. Maybe – just maybe – he does.

awesome if sanders comes with him

a joke of course, but kinda not

hey

sign Bob to minmum with incentives for each game he plays , and extra little bonus if he makes it through the first game nothing to lose

+1

-5

Rather have a UFA…

Bob was great now he is a waste of a roster spot

I'd be more concerned if the Colts didn't just hire a defensive guy.

Pagano could always overrule this guy if he stinks up the joint.

So Much Hate.

Colts ‘fans’ need to take it down a notch with regards to the immediate hatred of every decision.

I love these pickups. A shift that was needed 5 years ago. A scout and player personnel guy from Philly, a D Coordinator from Baltimore, a great OC from Pitt, and now this – an aggressive D Coordinator with a track record of success better than anyone on our side for at least 12+ years. Very well respected by players who played hard for him in his SF stint. Remember: Coordinators don’t play.

Lets talk about how we never have to watch one more play of the Cover 2 (worst defense ever) and how in (no more than) 2 years we’ll have huge jacked maniacs all over our D that have a simple common goal of kicking your ass. Maybe even starting this year.

Lets talk about how now we go after 2 established veteran OG’s and developing a power-running game to compliment a soon-to-be very physical D. Then throw in (maybe) Peyton, or Luck and things are moving in a solid direction.

Considering the many different ways a new GM, Coach, O Coordinator, and D Coordinator could have gone, I’m ecstatic with the New Crew.

Peace.

Not Colts fans...

…just a handful of people with strong opinions. Most of us don’t shoot from the hip. ;)

The Hired GREG MANUSKY?

Really??? ……….(speechless)

Breaking News
Peyton Manning medically cleared to resume NFL career, per sources. More coming on ESPN now.
Mort on twitter

Is saying manning is cleared to play football again!!!!

5:25 p.m. EST, Peyton is cleared again
He's cleared for his neck, which is good.

But all the things related to his neck, like the nerves in his arm, aren’t anywhere near game-ready.

is that what PFT says?
I wouldn't know, I don't go there.

But the nerves in his arm didn’t suddenly get Wolverine-levels of regeneration.

According to ESPN a source close to Manning said
It’s not a safety issue, it’s a performance issue.

Sure, he’s cleared to play, but can he?

you need a too soon to rate checkbox also!!
I am going to...

…take a wait and see approach. SD were not exactly awash with defensive superstars.
