The emotional roller coaster in Indy just keeps on trucking...
I know you're tired of it. Believe me, I'm TIRED of it. But regardless of our feelings, this monumental moment for our beloved franchise must be covered.
At approximately 1 am EST Sunday, Irsay took to his Twitter account to dispel Jason La Canfora's exclusive report.
No he hasn't been released nor was a decision reached weeks ago
— Jim Irsay(@JimIrsay) January 29, 2012
If we're to take Irsay's words at face value (decide that for yourself), a decision hasn't been made (at least not "weeks ago"). I do find it a little odd that Irsay didn't emphatically deny the report, as he famously did with Sodapop Curtis' or the coaching snuff scoop from Adam Schefter.

When La Canfora's report came out on Saturday, I'll be the first to say that it was surprising. I wasn't surprised by the possible departure of Manning, but by the report itself. If Manning's future was decided weeks ago, as suggested by La Canfora's sources, then why did Mr. Irsay tell us the following in late December [emphasis mine]:
"I paid him $26 million this season and he didn't play and I knew it was an iffy situation. If he's healthy and he can play, he'll be back here."
Today is the 29th of January and weeks ago would have meant earlier this month -- Ryan Grigson signed on the 11th -- or even earlier. That said, you'd think that there would still be some valuable time for Manning and Irsay to take advantage of before making a decision.
But if La Canfora's report is indeed accurate, it could be possible that the Manning verdict was health-related. Maybe Irsay knows that Manning will not be healthy enough for him to be comfortable by the deadline and the decision made itself.
Or maybe Irsay simply changed his mind and decided to forget about his words from late December.
Only time will tell, friends.
[UPDATE]: During a pre-Pro Bowl (don't ask why I'm watching the Pro Bowl) discussion segment on NBC, Peter King, who spoke with Irsay, stated that the decision regarding Manning's future has not been made.
King also mentioned that Gil Brandt thinks Manning will likely retire due to his slow rehabilitation. As for Tony Dungy, he still believes that if Manning is healthy, he'll be a Colt. Otherwise, he won't play at all.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, folks.

What a BAD owner
I cant take the owner of my beloved Colts anymore. He needs to get of Twitter he makes a fool of himself daily and makes me think he is back on the drugs. Why can’t he just admit that Peyton will not be a Colt next year. His PR gaffs and constant denials make him look like an unstable fool. It would do us all alot of good to move on from the Peyton era.
BLEED_BLUE - January 29, 2012
wrong
1) he doesnt embarrass himself on twitter at all. you may not like it and thats fine. dont read it. there are a lot of fans that like that jim irsay tweets
2) how does he look like an unstable fool?
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
1) to each their own I rather he not be on Twitter at all. I think Irsay is a tool personaly however I don’t fault him for letting Manning go we all know he will just be honest about it I mean really.
You let Rob Lowe Tweet Manning is retiring (and he might) but that’s really a slap in the face to someone to out their retirement.
Its Manning’s decision when he should announce retirement not Jimbo’s.
Other than that I have no issue with the moves he has made. Changes needed to be done.
CF4L - January 29, 2012
rob lowe?
irsay let lowe do that? that didnt happen
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
Yeah that’s it because you know Rob Lowe would just suddenly say that out of thin air?
Its obvious Irsay wants Manning to retire.
And Manning may very well retire but it should come from him not from Irsay’s tweaking.
I get you despise Manning and that’s your right of course but really I don’t get how anyone can find Irsay respectable here.
I just can’t imagine Kraft or Rooney acting this way and I loathe both their teams.
CF4L - January 29, 2012
get over it man
irsay isnt doing anything to manning. irsay isnt telling lowe to tweet mannings retirement
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
Sure so how exactly does Rob Lowe know he’s retiring?
We know Manning wouldn’t tell him such a thing?
He’s friends with Irsay connect the dots but clearly I’ll leave you to your own delusions.
CF4L - January 29, 2012
maybe. just maybe
rob lowe is full of shit and someone gave him wrong information
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
As ridiculous as he sound from time to time...
I rather he keep tweeting and dispelling rumors. You can always ignore him if you like; that said, this tweet in particular doesn’t appear to deny or confirm anything.

dezznutz1001 - January 29, 2012

he our big douche!
Addai Another Aday - January 30, 2012
I agree, however my personal two cents...
releasing #18 = lost ticket sales, lost TV revenue, and thus… lost concession sales, lost parking revenue. I get it, Luck might be the next coming of Christ…. I get it. But I also get that there are a lot of butts in the seats that watch #18 do what he does.
Did this year suck? Yep. Was it all because Manning was out? Yep. So that tells you what an AMAZING weapon he is. Do you sell your nuclear bomb for an unproven laser beam that can shoot from the moon?
I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that Stanford only played a couple -NFL-talent producing teams. They beat one – and mostly due to the running game, not Luck. I would rather let the kid learn the new system under the greatest QB of all time. There are plenty of other areas that need attention. Fix those first. Why screw with the only weapon that’s worth a shit?
Coltsince89 - January 29, 2012
manning is done
so drafting luck only makes sense.
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
If only all of us had
The god-like all-knowing abilities like our local troll omaha. If the rest of us could see into the future and discover unreleased health information, it would significantly lessen the amount of bickering around here.
Luck - January 29, 2012
really
it just takes some common sense and the ability to not worship football players
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
And your man-crush on Luck isn't the same worshipping?
It’s not like you’ve been repeatedly insisting to drop the best thing to happen in the history of this franchise for this college kid or anything.
Luck - January 29, 2012
manning isnt healthy
he is also old. he has a very limited amount of time left and his contract is too big. it only makes sense to ditch him
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
The point stands
Your desire to buy a #12 jersey isn’t the same as everyone else’s worshipping of Manning?
Luck - January 29, 2012
not really
not really close. i want the colts to do what is best for the franchise. a lot of people are wanting the franchise to do what is best for manning. its not the same thing.
manning is just a player. luck is just a player. we need a new qb and luck appears to be the best one available
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
Irony
Addai Another Aday - January 29, 2012
more genius responses
from the Biggest Douche in the universe
dezznutz1001 - January 29, 2012
Because
The “only weapon that’s worth a shit” isn’t working anymore. Manning still isn’t healthy. if he was, he’d be out there showing off that laser rocket arm (and trying to force the Colts to pick up the contract) instead of rehabbing at the team facility every day.
It’s time to accept reality: Manning isn’t healthy, nor is he likely to be by March 8 (a deadline chosen by Manning and his agent). If that’s the case, you CAN’T pick up the option. You HAVE to draft Luck.
Chris S. - January 29, 2012
WELL SAID
It’s inevitable at this point. Colt fans need to focus on the future and how lucky they are that a talent like Luck is available to them.
javen - January 29, 2012
all this “future” crap, new era,and pro manning vs pro luck fan divide is cliche and stupid as hell. so what if fans voice they want manning to stay? you really think irsay reads this blog and bases his million dollar judgements on it? you think he is not ALSO fighting his feelings about this? fans who suck on luck and want to worship at the alter of andrew will just as fast turn on irsay if luck busts so lets not say what is reality. you think working at normal jobs or playing fantasy football makes any of us CEO material of a franchise? you have no better ideal than the same fans you trash. let them have their b**** fest since trust me you will not get another manning…. ever and irsay knows that. he not only saved your colts from moving out here to LA but got you a stadium and made naptown matter. if not for peyton indiana be known only for basketball and a pass through state.
fans like you think you just plug in a HYPED college QB and the train keeps going when we’ve seen the hyped QB before and like titanic we know how this will end. history is more on my side that luck will not pan out as #1 rather than him doing so. i trusted experts before and they gave me leaf, couch, dilfer, sanchez, carr, and several other picks they just knew would be franchise callers. even last year saying newton would be the biggest bust… yeah. i’m a colts fans since 84 so i will cheer and support luck but really… you don’t see this train wreck coming? IMHO sad but true all this “once in a lifetime” crap ON TOP OF following Manning will fold this kid under intense pressure. then we’ll get some QB in here much like brady lower in a draft who will perform better and luck will be another nfl trivia question and rated as the biggest draft bust surpassing leaf. but what do any of us know… now pass me the tequila.
BigMan74 - January 29, 2012
now pass me a shot to watch this horrible boring pro bowl game today
BigMan74 - January 29, 2012
Calm down, BigMan
I didn’t trash anybody, and I don’t “worship at the altar of Luck.” All I did was try to make a few rational points:
Do I think Luck will be better than Manning? I have no idea, man. I don’t expect him to be. But he’s young, healthy and has a lot of potential. Conversely, Manning has been amazing, but is also 36 and injured. Even if he bounces back from this injury (which he hasn’t yet), he’s near the end of the line on his career. Luck may never be as good as Manning, but he could be something that Manning can’t — a quality starting QB for the next decade or more.
And “don’t I see the train wreck coming?” No, I don’t. It’s entirely possible that this whole “new era” of the Colts could flame out, but it’s also not a given. And I find it interesting that you spend most of the first half of your post pointing out that none of us are “CEO material” and that we really don’t have any idea how the situation will pan out — only to see you spend the second half of the post proudly proclaiming that you know that Luck will suck, this whole thing will be a disaster, and that Luck will be a bigger bust than Leaf.
News flash: I don’t know how this all plays out, and neither do you. All we can do is sit back and watch.
Chris S. - January 29, 2012
exactly my point chris... now your learning young jedi. :)
BigMan74 - January 29, 2012
that was pretty accurate
muncie_in_this - January 30, 2012 via Android app
weird denial
anyone notice he says “hasn’t been released”? He didn’t say he won’t be released shortly. Also, my guess is that the source is a GM candidate who had discussions with Grigson and Irsay about this…..or one of the polians.
coltsgolfbeer - January 29, 2012
Irsay the Hypocrite
Irsay has definitely been a “politician” over the past weeks! He’s going on twitter, doing interviews with ESPN, responding to comments. That’s kind of what’s pissing me off with this whole issue.
He has the nerve to call out Manning about being a “politician”, he’s doing the same EXACT thing. I like Irsay don’t get me wrong, but come on man.
ColtsFanNChiTown - January 29, 2012
its different
irsay is the owner of the business. manning is an employee. manning was out of line talking to the media and irsay put him in his place. just like a good boss should do. irsay put a stop to it and got with manning and resolved the issue.
all fault goes to manning
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
Manning is different
Manning is/was Irsay’s business and not just an employee. He brought the “horseshoe” to what it is in Indy. So to say Manning can’t play the game within the game is hypocritical when Irsay is doing the same thing.
ColtsFanNChiTown - January 29, 2012
wrong
manning is just an employee. its a fact. fans hold him up like an equal to irsay. he is not.
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
It's not black and white...especially the business of the NFL
Manning deserves to be held to a higher standard. He’s Irsay’s top “employee”….litterally face of the franchise, face of Indy, and face of the NFL. It’s a business for the Owners as well as the players. So to say Irsay’s comments were not hypocritical is wrong. Irsay want’s all this to be kept in house? He’s not even abiding to that.
ColtsFanNChiTown - January 29, 2012
So players have to right to talk to the media?
Don’t be ridiculous. The NFL doesn’t prohibit it and as far as we know we’re in America. Worst yet, to hear it from Irsay who’s been outdoing Jerry Jones in self-promotion by miles its the ultimate hypocrisy.
soforizo - January 29, 2012
There's a difference
in First Amendment rights as pertaining to working for a private company. You can say what you want, but if your employer doesn’t like it, they can fire you. Just ask Hank Williams III.
Addai Another Aday - January 29, 2012
If Manning was never a Colt...
The Colts would be in L.A.
And the Supper Bowl would be in Miami.
JCub3d - January 29, 2012
Guys, don't you understand yet?
If you’re disagreeing with omaha, then you’re wrong. It really is black and white.
Manning is done, Andrew Luck is the third coming of Christ (Tebow obviously being the second), Jim Irsay was justified in calling out Manning but Manning had no business in doing the same because he’s just an employee, and Omaha Nebraska is the greatest place in the world. It’s about time the rest of you start to accept all of this.
Luck - January 29, 2012
wrong
lets get this right. if you are going to post for me, at least get it right
1) correct. i am 99% of the time right. so if you are disagreeing with me, then you are probably wrong.
2) i never said luck is the 3rd coming of christ. my take on luck is that we need a qb and he is the best qb in this draft. he has the ability to be a franchise qb.
3) irsay wouldnt have called out manning if manning didnt do something wrong. is that really hard to understand?
4) i dont even like omaha. i just live here.
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
" irsay wouldnt have called out manning if manning didnt do something wrong"
Wrong by what standards? Wrong in Irsay’s opinion?
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
yes
in irsays opinion and the worlds
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
You do not get decide what the world's opinion is bud
Granted neither do I. So I suggest we just keep the world out of our own opinions
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
manning
talked smack about the colts to the media. he did something wrong.
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
In your own opinion and an Irsay's
I do not agree.
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
why?
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
Details aren't necessary
You seldom provide more than a “you’re wrong” response. Why should anyone else do more than that for you?
Granted, I know you’re right more than 99% of the time, but it’s still a valid point.
Luck - January 29, 2012
I don't have a problem
with him saying it was nice to get out of Indy for a little bit. A lot of his friends had just been canned and a lot of new faces were showing up. And this is on top of all the other stress he is dealing with right now. It’s easy to see why Indy could be a toxic environment to a member of the old guard
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
fair enough
he still shouldnt have blabbed about it to the press. he was in the wrong. good thing irsay put him in time out.
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
Once again I don't see a problem with him being open with the press
if Irsay is as well. In the wrong in your opinion
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
its simple
mannings boss (irsay) doesnt want him blabbing to the media.
irsay has paid manning millions upon millions of dollars. enough money that manning should have the brains to play a good soldier.
you dont bad mouth your employer to the media. its not right
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
If you're going to bring up the argument that Irsay has paid PM
How about all of the tens of millions Peyton has delivered to Irsay.
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
nope
its a business. the workers make money for the owners. otherwise the owners wouldnt be in it.
irsay pays peyton for a job. manning talking poorly about the colts is an insult to irsay and puts a poor image of his business. it is wrong to do.
it would be different if irsays checks were bouncing or the colts were actually doing something shady.
again. manning is paid lots of money so irsay can financially benefit from it. typical employee and employer relationship
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
I disagree
I think sports are a lot different then your typical business. However I do not believe that either one of us are going to persuade each other to think differently then we do now, so I suggest we just call it a day and agree to disagree.
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
we can call it a day. thats fine
but you are wrong. sports is exactly like a typical business.
manning gains nothing by badmouthing the colts. he looks like a spoiled kid and knows it.
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
Wrong constitutes that it is as simple as a yes or no question
It is my opinion that is not a typical business. Learn to respect other’s opinions
stonewall12345678 - January 29, 2012
why would i respect
something that is wrong. change your opinion and i will gladly respect it
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
hundreds of millions?
muncie_in_this - January 30, 2012 via Android app
BUZZER....ERRR
No, Irsay is quite possibly the lamest, pot smoking owner in the league. the fact is, the Indy Colts would be the same shitty, “why-do-I-like-these-bums” team they always were had they never picked up Manning, Omaha.
Since you are such a great businessman; where does loyalty to this fact place as the business owner? Irsay’s time to put up or shut up on this “I’m so righteous” bs. He either comes to the table with Condon and Manning to restructure the contract…or, like you appear to be, he has no principles. It’s pretty easy when you quit complicating the issue.
Coltsince89 - January 29, 2012
well. lol
1) why would condon and manning want to restructure the contract?
2) they cant restructure his contract without releasing him. by rule, they cant just restructure the contract
3) loyalty is fine. it is needed by both the employer and employee. but sometimes loyalty can only go so far. like this situation
before you get all pissy, you might want to at least know what you are talking about just a tiny bit.
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
My apologies. Lo siento.
I’ll assume whatever you just said is at least 99% right, so I’ll be sure to update my stance to mirror 99% of that post.
Luck - January 29, 2012
lol luck
good post. you pick things up quickly. you will do well in life
omahacolt - January 29, 2012
^Wrong
1) That’s quite the stretch.
2) Bull shit, dood. You know you have an Andrew Luck Fat Head with a sock inserted in the mouth area. How many times per day do you Luckterbate?
3) So Irsay may have been disappointed with Manning’s interview. Regardless, handle it like a man, or an NFL owner, not a junior high girl. Jim [Irsay] is starting to make his dad look classy.
4) Then move across the river to the Bluffs.
steveoly32 - January 29, 2012
wrong
1) the bluffs is for meth heads. shit town
2) andrew luck is a really good prospect for qb. we need a qb.
3) irsay handled it splendidly
omahacolt - January 30, 2012
wtf are you talking about
irsay is mannings b*tch. without manning irsay would be in LA as the other weird owner (sterling being the other) except irsay would be on herb, tweets, and lost motivation to come to work so he hires samuel jackson to get those MF players to play some MF defense and a MF win! (in my angry jackson voice) manning is the boss and has been for years don’t get it twisted. manning will go somewhere else and if healthy will play us and kick the s*** out of us for another 3 years while we learn luck is a game manager and fans remember the good ol days of passes going over 10 yard passes and getting to at least a playoff game.

BigMan74 - January 29, 2012
Why are you riding Irsays dick so hard? Are you trying to get Abbeys job?
This franchise was nothing till Polian drafted Peyton, we owe all the sucess we have had over the years to him.
NOT Irsay
Irsay has never had a “real” job his entire life. This real life Silver Spoon lives in la-la land, especially since he seems to be forgetting how bad this team was b4 Polian took over, when he was makeing all the calls…like now
The fact you jock Irsay so hard, yet spit in Mannings face, is pure blasphemy
Most people here are fine with the fact that if Peyton isnt ready by March 8th, we realizemust move on…But instead of letting us mourn in our own ways, your being a total asshole
dezznutz1001 - January 29, 2012
Media is....
…on a fishing expedition. Fans are on the edge and it seems like nobody cares about the superbowl.
I was out running by the canal/white-river on Friday and it seems that NYG fans have invaded our beloved city. Shared a few choice thoughts about NE that had them hootin’ and hollering for a mile. I did not spot a single Pats fan yet. Looks like they are down in a bunker somewhere. :)
Antillar - January 29, 2012

I think Irsay spit out the truth there…..and at 1am in the morning I am not surprised his response was less than that….if the man says it is not true then I sure choose to believe Irsay over any La Confora.
Colts53 - January 29, 2012
La Confora is Rob Lowes split personality you didn't know?
BigMan74 - January 29, 2012
I have an idea - how about an article about the new coaching staff?
This Manning and Irsay back and fourth is a waste of time until an actual decision is made.
Espn is reporting that the Steelers linebackers coach is the colts new d coordinator. Id love an update on that please
TheWeasley - January 29, 2012 via Android app
Irsay's 'New Colts Era' is the right thing to do.
I went from feeling complete indifference toward Irsay to now having some respect for the man. The tough difficult decision is to move on from Manning. Asside from a media assisted war of words with Manning (which Manning initiated), Irsay has been shrewd in his decisions.
The colts unique opportunity to transform the franchise for the next 10-15 years is now.
And why do some of you care what he does on his twitter account? What the hell does it matter? Because he’s rich and owns a team he should be stiff, different than you. Should he be an elitist, an asshole who thinks twitter is beneath him?
mlc2656 - January 29, 2012 via mobile
Besides, his response to the Fisher thing was classic...
I didn’t go on any ‘fishing’ expedition.
He seems like a decent guy. I don’t see why so many are quick to bash someone they don’t know based on silly things like posting lyrics on a twitter account.
mlc2656 - January 29, 2012 via mobile
Peyton Place
When I was a kid Peyton Place 1964-1969 seemed liked it ran forever. One day it ended and some other show is in its time slot. Like a normal kid, I heard the music of that show come on, I ran for the door. I didn’t want to be around the house.
When the Colts take the field in 2012-13 season, it marks the beginning of a new era. I want to watch them at home and in Houston. That Houston game for the last three years, I believe two were season openers for the Texans, were electric. One team seemed to have wanted to win. I have one suggestion for the Colts in the new season. We cannot wait on superman. The new era should begin with this motto: “win the game in front of you.” Anything else sounds like Bill Polian (next man up, draft picks and position, statistics, woes of the offensive and defensive sides of the ball).
How do you win right now? I will let Owner Jim Irsay, GM Grigson, and Coach Pagano work that out.
By the way, Peyton Manning has reached legendary status. How can you tell? We keep writing about him. Peyton Place, 1998-2011. 2012-2013 Colts team will be better than ever. I believe it.
Leroystayclean - January 29, 2012
I don't make a habit of this
But I’m willing to go out on the limb to say this. From the outside looking in, I sincerely wish Peyton the best: whatever the “best” is for him.
Rarely does a player come along that has done as much for the team and the game as Peyton has. Stellar player, awesome teammate and a credit to his position and the game. I for one sincerely hope he retires before he ever agrees to put on the uniform of another team. It would be one of the sad days in NFL history for #18 to not be a Colt.
I have no vested interest in the Colts at all (although I do offer my sympathies to your fanbase now that you can deal with the likes of Bruce Arians….again.) but I do have an interest in the game and Peyton Manning has been nothing short of a credit since he came into the league.
Rob Lowe is a buffoon and someone who should stay far away from any social media outlets. Whatever happens though, this Steeler fan truly appreciates everything “Peyton”.

Eli Manning is playing in the super bowl in one week for a chance to destroy Tom Brady and company for the second time. But, the Manning we’re hearing about 24/7 is Peyton. Talk about stealing thunder. I’m sure it was unintentional, but that’s exactly what’s happening.

Lots of ridiculous nonsense going on here.

I understand the anger and will miss 18 but please take five minutes and look at the cap situation on coltsinsider!
I am not going to type all the numbers but…Basically if they give Manning the money and he can’t play he will end up counting an astronomical number against the cap (more than 1/3) in 2012 and the Colts will not be able to keep or resign anyone at all…
The cap ramifications would also be terrible the following year as well.
So it comes down to giving an unhealthy Manning the $$$ and risking having to play with virtually no money to sign players which means they would have to cut or not re-sign any one with talent…
The Colts would literally be fielding a JB team which would be less talented than last ears 2-14 abortion…
I implore all of you that are calling Irsay a bad owner and fans that understand this disloyal to look at the cap situation then you can make an honest realization.
If you say we want 18 at the risk of blowing up the franchise for 5-7 years then that’s fine but if you see the cap situation it’s easy to understand why he has to get cut

What Irsay ACTUALLY said...
“No he hasn’t been released nor was a decision reached weeks ago….. but we’re 99.99% sure he’s outta here!”
In related news, I would LOVE to play poker with Mr. IR$AY.

Heh
Addai Another Aday - January 30, 2012
the fact of the fact
there is no team other then indy that can offer peyton enough protection and safety for the time he needs to recover. peyton having this much damage and playing football here or anywere else is kind of like driving a corvette with missing lug nuts over 100mph. peyton is a indiana icon and i cant see anyone taking that away from the fans other then to steal the lime light. think abt having a extra qb that did nothing but sit on the sideline, think abt how many players stay on ir. whatever
