The firing of Bill and Chris Polian today is as big a news story as any game played this year by the Colts. Thus, the 5:00 p.m. press conference the Colts have scheduled today to discuss the firings should get an open thread.
WISHtv.com is streaming the news conference live for those of you not in the Indianapolis area.

Let's talk names...
Who’s your new GM, Head Coach? Are you changing OC and DC too?
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
I think Murphy deserves a shot at being the D Co-ordinator next year. Christensen should go as offensive co-ordinator though. Maybe bring in Norv Turner to replace him…
josephdaly111 - January 2, 2012
Jeff Fisher for coach
Boiler00 - January 2, 2012
ive seen that before, but I dont get why he has such support.
Rossaa - January 2, 2012
Fisher and Gruden
I think those two will get looked at for coach just because they are excited about coming to Indy, not just excited about getting a head coaching job. Fisher has expressed interest that he would love to coach the Colts before any of this happened. Gruden gets a boner every time he talks about Manning, Freeney, Mathis. Now some of that will depend on if some of these veterans are resigned or released. I think the energy that either of them has would be a positive for the organization. Something we have not had in a long time. Just my thoughts.
Colts Forever - January 2, 2012
We need an up and comer. Offensive oriented if it's Luck, D if Peyton.
It's Magc - January 2, 2012
Press conference is also on nfl network for us out of staters
Coltsfansc - January 2, 2012
In terms of offense
I think we want to keep it the same, (assuming we keep Peyton, of course). If we got Jeff Fisher (cross your fingers) he will bring in his defense from Tennessee
Coltsfaninoklahoma1 - January 2, 2012
This is why...
This is why I’ve followed this blog for 7 years… This blog has been awesome…

Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
this is some trick by the polians obviously
BBS has informed us this wouldnt happen because Irsay doesnt run the team and hes an idiot and Polians bitch
C.Settles - January 2, 2012
your damn right it was
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
It'd be nice if they had the feed from the supposed microphone so there aren't shutters every second.
Ram27 - January 2, 2012
yea it sounds like someone steppin on paper
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
Nice to see an owner making these announcements...
Instead of a Director of Football Operations. Makes the team feel more personal.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Anybody else notice that he is only talking about Bill...
And hasn’t mentioned Chris at all, other than to say he was fired.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
I noticed.
I also noticed that I think he set a new record for the use of the sounds ‘ugh’ and ‘umm’.
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
Yes...
I’m sure he has.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
i would rather someone said 'umm' and thought about what they were going to say
than just spew verbal diarrhea
Rossaa - January 2, 2012
I noticed that too
And thought that was very telling regarding his opinion about Chris!
knockonwood - January 2, 2012
Thinking the same thing
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
Even the direct question about Chris...
He avoided saying why he fired Chris.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Let's hope
Let’s just hope he finds someone as visionary as BP was… without of course the vitriol towards the press.
Nosewiper - January 2, 2012
Amen

Better stream

The wishtv one is a great stream of it.
AZ_Colt_Fan - January 2, 2012
damn this stream is way better
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
Danke.
Ram27 - January 2, 2012
Again...the last question could have led directly to Chris...
No mention. The Succession plan was in place and then changed.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Subtle hints in comments....
While saying he’s not contacted any GM prospects yet…He did say “I’m excited about our new direction…” Me thinks he’s had some arms-length talks with potential candidates. It’s too knee jerk to fire them without any backup plan and Irsay has been a great owner since taking over the team; he’s got a plan in place.
cmgww - January 2, 2012
He said he would start making calls as early as tonight.
He also said it might take several weeks to hire a new GM, but I think he knows who he wants. My guess is out of professional courtesy he will not make any offers until a playoff team is out of the playoffs before he announces his decision. That is saying he is looking for a new GM that is currently on a playoff team. Which I hope he is doing.
Colts Forever - January 2, 2012
Is that realistic?
I think it’s a nice sentiment, but if Mckenzie from Green Bay is on the list he might not be available until February.
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
Good answer about the fans...
I hear you, but you don’t make the decisions.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Irsay is a great owner. We're really lucky
Odin1980 - January 2, 2012
yup that's a sign caldwell is gone
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
Rebuilding???
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Damn
He said rebuilding….
AZ_Colt_Fan - January 2, 2012
Peyton..
Keysta101 - January 2, 2012
Jim, what do you say to the players that are currently on the team?
With a new GM what style of football do you want to seen played?
MBApastor - January 2, 2012
I don't think that can be answered until...
1) we know where Peyton is health wise.
2) we know who the new GM/Head Coach is.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Jim, are there any and under what circumstances do you see yourself not paying Peyton the $28 million due?
MBApastor - January 2, 2012
lol did you see chris polian accomplishments they used other
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
Sounds like we're keeping Caldwell
Only until Irsay or the new GM chooses someone better
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
Caldwell is gone.
Nobody thinks he’s a top coach. What new GM would want to bet his career on Jim “deerintheheadlights” Caldwell?
EVLGNUS - January 2, 2012
agreed
Guess my title was misleading without reading the body along with it – sorry
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
break nooooooooo
fanatik - January 2, 2012
Quarterback, General Manager and Head Coach as pillars of the franchise.
In that order is my guess…
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Agreed
Obviously, this revolves around as Peter King said being a “family decision.” Peyton = family. Bill = the trust fund manager.
MBApastor - January 2, 2012
I love that analogy!
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
He said "weeks". He wants McKenzie.
EVLGNUS - January 2, 2012
I would hope he's on the list.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
he's number 1 on my list
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
What about Dennis Polian?
Did Irsay boot all of the Polians?
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
Are there any other Polians I missed?
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
Rob , Job and Bob Polian
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
Irsay should've said Polians are fired
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
It's still fairly amazing
that Bill Polian got his kid hired as GM. It’s laughable when you stop and think about it. But, the same could be said for hiring Caldwell. Let’s hope for an era of better decisions.
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
agree
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
About that
One of the reporters talked to a few personnel people around the league today and the general consensus was that he’s not qualified to do more than scout at this point in his career.
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
There was also talk about him
being a ‘toxic’ force, which doesn’t surprise me a bit. He didn’t get the job honestly and therefore shouldn’t be allowed to keep it. It’s like letting illegal aliens stay here in America even though they snuck into the country….simply because they’ve evaded the law for a certain length of time.
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
Staying
“evaluated on his his own merits.”
EVLGNUS - January 2, 2012
There is a stream at Colts.com

mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
Information control...
Uh oh…
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
Wow...
The folks on
18to88ColtsAuthority are slitting their wrists.EVLGNUS - January 2, 2012
Shocker
I don’t understand what planet they’re from to just have wanted more of the status quo
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
They refer to 2-14 as "missing the playoffs" and "a losing season"
instead of more appopriate terms like “trainwreck” or “dumpster fire.”
EVLGNUS - January 2, 2012
Don't know why they treat Polian as God
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
It's a question for the ages.
Mental illness is a very complex thing.
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
All Caldwell positive comments about "during the week" coaching.
Improvements are all in game stuff.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
'Jim Caldwell's not an up and down coach'.
No, he’s not. A cardboard cut-out is not an up and down coach either.
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
Apparently a high school class is running the filming equipment on Colts.com
melvin shot out of a gun bullit - January 2, 2012
The volume is all over the place.
Now, it’s off altogether.
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
I had volume all the way up and could barely hear it
and then I had to turn my speakers way down. Now it’s freezing up on me.
melvin shot out of a gun bullit - January 2, 2012
Jim, how much did you drink on New Year’s? Given your history, was the decision at all influenced by timing?
MBApastor - January 2, 2012
this is my honest opinion on caldwell
he’s a good coach during the week of practice but on gameday i don’t want him anywhere near the game.
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
That what makes a good QB coach.
Great in the film room, but not of the sideline.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
He'd be twice the coach he is now,...
if just his time-out calling priveleges were revoked.
Ayrshire - January 2, 2012
he said Dennis Polian might be coming back noooooooooooooo
Phillycolt - January 2, 2012
My guess is he follows the rest of them
Isn’t that how nepotism works?
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
I wouldn't stay if my dad and brother, who were the bosses, were just fired
fanatik - January 2, 2012
Did the stream go?

http://www.1070thefan.com/listen/
mkehoosier - January 2, 2012
I am pleased with what I heard.
Going about it the right way, not rushing into things. Finding the right fit for the organization.
emiller17 - January 2, 2012
the future GM is most likely with a team still playing football, so the search will begin after their team is done or after the super bowl
danorocks17 - January 2, 2012
and reported Fisher is going to talk to St Louis and Miami,
I bet he tells them you will have to wait until I talk to the Colts
OBGYNOSUPREME - January 2, 2012
Like the Packers for example?
EVLGNUS - January 2, 2012
One big move was enough for today
Give Irsay all the credit for that,, get a great GM and a great head Coach
OBGYNOSUPREME - January 2, 2012
Mr. Irsay
I’m loving the moves but no way Polians go and Caldwell isn’t shown the door as well. Coldwell is NOT the person to groom your young franchise QB. I don’t see how you can keep the current staff and Luck has to learn a new offense when Peyton leaves. I say just cut ties with Manning. Yes, he MIGHT play another 2 great years but we are looking at 10-15 with Luck. Implement an offense similar to what the Saints,Packers run, pop some pop corn and enjoy the show!!
