Colts Fire Head Coach Jim Caldwell [UPDATE] Jay Glazer and Adam Schefter Confirm Spagnuolo Interviewed For Colts DC

The Colts, via their team blog, announced that Head Coach Jim Caldwell has been released of his duties:

The Indianapolis Colts have released Jim Caldwell of his duties as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

This ends a wild few days where we had multiple reports saying it was all but certain that Caldwell would be returning to the Colts, even after Bill and Chris Polian were fired after the 2-14 season. This does validate, however, that Owner Jim Irsay is ready to start a "new era" of Colts football, and it would have been a silly slogan if the Head Coach of the 2-14 2011 version was kept around.

It was a credit to Caldwell to keep the locker room playing hard despite the horrid season, and as it's been said over and over by people in the Colts organization, Caldwell is a nice guy who has the respect of a lot of people. It just didn't translate over to being a Head Coach in the NFL. It's one of the most specialized jobs in America, and some of the best people just aren't a fit for it. We wish Coach Caldwell the best.

An interesting note about the seemingly endless "sources" that said Caldwell was to be retained, from Sports Illustrated's Will Carroll:

Something makes me think that the Caldwell "flip-flop" was Grigson running a leak test. Well played.

The Colts have set a 4 pm ET press conference to announce the firing. Once we get a video link, we'll put it here.

[UPDATE]: From FOX Sports' Jay Glazer and ESPN's Adam Schefter:

Well, we got that part of our earlier report right. Makes me wonder if the Caldwell firing was in reaction to fan uproar. The same people who told us Spagnuolo interviewed with the team also told us Caldwell would remain as head coach.

Leak test. Interesting.
If true, very smart

we’ll see if somebody gets fired. My prediction is Tom Telesco.

I wish JC the best

But the smart move. Does this mean Spags for HC or will they cobble together coordinators without the eventual HC’s input? Interestink….

Agree

Hate to see bad things happen to good people, but this was the right move.

I went to the Proctologist and got a leak test last week.
So much for Brad's "sources"

That assured us Caldwell was staying. Same way Brad guarantees that Peyton won’t be a Colt in 2012. We’ll see how that plays out. ;-)

Everybody was wrong on this one

Basically everyone here locally in Indy had heard he was staying. Guys who had never been wrong before too.

That’s why the leak test seems so plausible.

Except

Brad has this annoying habit of bragging about his contacts and sources, using them as a trump card to put down anyone who disagrees with him. He can never have a difference of opinion with someone — the other person’s views have to be discredited by him boasting of his extensive contacts. In this case, he was flat-out wrong. And Mike Chappell was simply writing what he felt, not claiming he had some inside info like Brad does.

Haters gonna hate

Living such a bitter life must be hard.

Again, Chappell wasn't the only person reporting it

TV hosts, radio hosts, etc.

I know exactly who this source was, has never been wrong before, and he/she was wrong this time around. There was no boasting about his sources, how he’s the first one, etc. Just reporting what we heard. It (gladly) ended up wrong.

And you're annoying because you're just here to whine about BBS

You should be happy. Or are you not really a Colts fan?

The vast majority of dedicated Colt's fans

Have never seen this site, and if they witnessed the relentless, mindless bashing of arbitrary targets, they would either laugh heartily or be pissed off. Constantly questioning things or having bloated opinion of your opinion does not make one more of a fan.

Do we get to throw a brick at somoen now?
LOL LOL LOL Wait for it.................Wait for it...........

OOOOHHHH – bobbyblitz already did it. The delusional boarders who think their outrage influences FO decisions! LOL LOL LOL

Caldwell

Folks, I posted this over at the other article:

The Colts just announced on their website’s blog that Jim Caldwell has been fired. No word yet on the Spagnuolo story. It’s possible he’s being brought in as the new head coach. In any case, our sources (along with Mike Chappell’s, Phil Wilson’s, and Jake Query’s) were wrong about Caldwell staying. Personally, I’m kind of glad they were. I didn’t want Caldwell back as head coach. Regarding how everyone from the Colts beat writer to a lowly blogger like me could get this story so WRONG, SI’s Will Carroll offers this:

Something makes me think that the Caldwell “flip-flop” was Grigson running a leak test. Well played.

That’s certainly plausible. I don’t believe the people who spoke to me lied. In any case, Caldwell is now gone. I guess this means we really are entering a ‘New Era.’

leak test seems likely

too many ppl had this wrong

For what it's worth

My people were not the people leaking info to Chappell, Wilson, and Query.

The bricks

While celebrating just let’s forget about throwing those bricks… kind of wanna see the story to fold out. Leak test or not, promised is promised :-)

There were only two possible outcomes with Caldwell. That means only two possible leaks could have been tested.

Now we need to get Mike Zimmer to be coach
Would be interesting...

To see a breakdown of how this story developed from one of the writers, especially Brad. I do not begrudge the fact that the Caldwell staying story was posted here- this is one of literally 14 places I read that story in the last 48 hours. I am just personally curious to hear what really went down on this one when the dust settles.

The old joke with the redskins summoning tree for the winter

Besides the theory with the leaking test it could have happened that some media guy was thinking loudly or murmuring ’I’ve got a feeling that Caldwell will be retained.’ and somebody accidentally hearing and forwarding it as breaking leaked news.

It feels like the Colts have been constipated

for weeks and they just took a massive dump.

HA

Now that is funny

Are the rumors true? Is Brad going to apologize?

I’m surprise this isn’t the lead. I don’t think he has any reason to apologize aside from the fact that he promised to do so in the last article. We’ll see I guess. I’d be happy to give him a pass.

He reported what was told to him

by what he believed to be credible sources. I don’t think that calls for an apology.

I'm usually with you bro

But a lot of stories on this site haven’t panned out…

I love what the guys do here and realize its a blog and not the Star…but it is a legit critique if stories are not accurate. I won’t explain why because I don’t want to get banned

Glad Caldwell is gone thought thank god…

Some are accurate, some aren't.

I’m o.k. with that. I’d rather have things reported when they’re heard. If he’s wrong, he’ll get on here and admit that, like he’s done already.

I'd say the opposite

He accurately called Manning playing with an injury even though everyone ripped him a new one when he did.

He was correct about the Polians’ being gone.

Not sure why he, or any journalist, is expected to be 100% right when so much of the information is “hush hush” or leaked.

he wasnt the only one who knew about the Polian being gone

I was saying it since I heard it at the beginning of the season..Jake Queary told my buddy and I one night when we called him up. The rumor Polian would be gone was around, it was kept hush-hush due to Polains war on words…I have told that story multiple times on here b4

Like I said People can be wrong, all of us can be, its the know-it-all ban you if you disagree attitude that rubs people, like me, the wrong way

You should not have fear the ban hammer

When calling out a journalist for an inaccurate story.

and I have no problem with them being wrong, but they almost NEVER recant, and if they do it stuck back on page 28.

What else hasn't panned out?

Not being confrontational, just curious what you feel has been factually incorrect here before.

Also, the only time we’ve “broken” news was Manning’s injury at start of 2010. Even this story had been said by multiple people, even though we heard independently of those guys.

Don't want banned from the site...

So I won’t get into it. I’m glad Caldwell is gone and if Spags is DC I will do a cartwheel

Email it to me then

We’ll chat offline.

He said he would

He Promised we could throw bricks at him, or somebody…that part wasnt to clear

Video evidence will be required? In the words of Michael Scott does youtube know? :)

Brad/Kravitz

He also trashed Kravitz and suggested he apologize to Query. Looks like Kravitz deserves the apology, from both Query and Wells.

This is what I think, exactly

I don’t think BBS was stupid or wrong for reporting what his sources told him, whether the info was accurate or not. I do, however, think that suggesting Kravitz should apologize when, indeed, Kravitz was right, was a bit over the top.

I Agree

My issue isn’t that Brad (and everyone else) got the story wrong. My issue was him calling for Kravitz to aplogize before the story was even over. Very amateurish.

And that's why he's a blogger.

Not a reporter.

The 'reporters' got it wrong too.
Actually,

Wilson said that there was “rumors” that Caldwell would stay… there was.
Chappell said he had a “feeling” that Caldwell would stay… he did.

Query is the only guy who reported it besides BBS. Query is a radio talk show host, not a reporter. So, no, the reporters didn’t report anything inaccurate.

Let's not split hairs.

BBS said that his sources reported that Caldwell is gone. There is nothing inaccurate with saying that. His sources, however, ended up being wrong. Big deal.

He also said that his sources are always "100% correct."

Which has no bearing.

Maybe they've always been right in the past.

This time they were wrong. Again, big deal.

the only problem with being wrong this time is that it's hard to believe them in the future

not that they are lying, but that their info in innacurate. luckily they were wrong on an issue that being wrong pleased the fans. may not be the same way next time

Well, don't believe them in the future then.

For me, I’d rather have the information put out there to consider, even if it ends up being incorrect. I don’t take everything reported here as fact, but I like that it’s put out there as soon as something is heard.

I agree, he had credible sources and doesn't need to apologize.

He did say he would beg for forgiveness, if they were wrong. I don’t have any problem with what he reported. He just made a promise. This is more joke than seriousness. I have nothing against BBS and what he said…

Interesting

I only like the idea of Spags coming in if Manning is healthy. Let’s not reinvent the wheel on offense.

All he has to do is NOT call idiotic time-outs,

and we’re already way ahead of the previous regime.

how about this?

For those of us who didn’t care about the 2004 draft class, could we get a story about what leverage Andrew Luck could use in order to not be drafted? I’ve looked but it doesn’t make sense to me.

Also thank baby Jesus Caldwell is gone. Seems like a good, strong guy, but in the real world, its always about performance.

what an emotional roller coaster!!!!!!!

if this guy is testing leaks, i like even more than i did yesterday! so glad caldwell is gone and i wish him well.

I don't want banned

I love this site! But the sources seem to be wrong a whole lot about organizational change…

Accountability?

a lot of people had it wrong
Again, prove it

What else, related to organizational change, has been factually wrong?

i can't remember such a fun offseason

this must be what its like to be a raiders fan

or a redskins fan
the only up-side of 2-14
Im still hoping

We can land Perry Fewell as our HC.

Why?

Their whole staff was about to get canned five weeks ago…

Now if we could get Tuck Pierre Paul and Osi that would be different

Nah

Getting hot at the right time is what got Spags a job in STL. Two years later he is out.

1 caldwell down, 1 manning to go
Yeah, get out of here

We may end up suffering the Manning curse for 100 years without a Super Bowl if that rings true…

it's important to live in the now. the past and future are not reality.....

i think a wise man somewhere said that

What about "A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush?"

Luck, no matter how many people are sure, is a prospect. Prospects almost always pan out. Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Don’t run a sure thing (health PM) out of town.

He is staying...
your right

he is staying. for the life of me i can’t figure out the logic behind wanting him to. i know this sounds arrogant now, but, all i can say is you’ll see my point when we r in a worse mess in a couple of yrs.

You saying we will be in a mess in a couple years

Leads me to believe you have some inside info on his injury?

I don't think he's staying

What’s to keep him here? Grigson hasn’t even talked to PM since he arrived. Grigson wants to make his mark apparently and Peyton Manning is Bill Polian leftovers to him…

It happens,lol

The Lions still havent recovered from the “Curse of Bobby Layne”

the trifecta is almost complete
Get lost

It’s 18 over 12 around these parts.

do you think your more of a fan than me because i want manning gone?

i’m sorry that you can’t see what i do…

Sorry

I thought that was Brady over Manning.

It’s Luck over Manning, right? If so, I’m fine with that.

Where did you get your crystal ball?

What is it your see in your crystal ball..please tell us…and dont demagogue the issue please

in my opinion

i’m not going to call people idiots or beat them up for their thoughts. to me, there is only one option for the future with this franchise. rebuild now, rebuild now, rebuild now! manning cost too much to keep. i think irsay will keep him if healthy, but it’s the wrong decision. $28 mil is too much cap space for an old QB on a shitty team. we have too many big contracts and/or FA on this team which is gonna leave us in a bad situation next yr. we will not, i repeat we will not win another SB with manning on this roster. too many great teams out there right now. this is my crystal ball. i understand the love for manning but if u look at things void of emotion, i don’t see any other option. only if he takes less money but thats not happening either.

having said all that

i think manning can pull out 10 wins with any roster. is that all we want? another thing that hasn’t been discussed and why i want him to retire is: i really don’t want to see him carted off on a stretcher with a broken neck. this is a bad and sudden situation to deal with and it sucks i might never see him play again, but it is the reality.

28 mil is not the cap hit

get your facts straight before you go dragging the best player through the mud like you so often do.

It's interesting that Caldwell gets let go at same time greg Williams leaves the saints...
Williams is going to the Rams with Fisher
The bigger question is

with Caldwell fired, what does this mean for Manning? I would LOVE to take Jimmy at his word when he says, if healthy, he will be a Colt. But Irsay also told a reporter that Caldwell deserved another chance with a full roster. So, now I have my questions. Props to Grigson for making his first big boy decision.

It means he’s gone I mean Manning liked the Polians and Caldwell its easier for Irsay to drive Manning to want to leave rather than actually cutting him and looking like the bad guy.

I dont buy it

Manning and Polians relationship was starting to dwindle when Polian started putting words into his mouth during his show. And with Caldwell, Manning knows he’s incompetent. Especially with clock management.

Probably because the last time he made this change we drafted this guy named Peyton Manning to go with new coach/new GM

I still don't see your point

for releasing Manning? If Manning is capable of playing why would you get rid of him?

Clearly 14 years ago a 35 year old Jim Harbaugh was shown the door for Peyton Manning

Now FF 14 years later history will repeat.

Because we don’t know if he’s healthy and if he is he’s 36 years old after 3 surgeries worth that much $$$ we have no team if we’re getting Luck too. 2 QBs and no team one has to go. Easier to get rid of the older guy.

I like harbaugh

But you cannot compare him to PM.. Its an apples to oranges comparison.

Peyton is a HOF’er…Harbaugh reminds me of Rich Gannon, who was pretty ggod the last coupel years of his career

Talent? No but

Age? Yes

Out with the old in with the new always the case in pro sports

harbaugh wishes he had a few seasons like gannon
Irsay said on National TV

If Manning is healthy he WILL be our QB going forward. He also said if there was a top tier QB in the draft they would take him. I think the Manning decision will be completely up to Irsay. Not Grigson like Caldwell’s fate was.

Yeah people say a lot of things doesn’t always mean they are being truthful.

True. Smoke N Mirrors

I’d say i was DEFINITELY taking him, so then those who really want to trade will have to offer more cuz they think I/we really want him..if you come out waving, #1 pick for sale, you will get worse offers

I've heard PM is pissed Polian was let go
I liked Caldwell

I thought he did a nice job keeping the team winning after Dungy left. I think Caldwell had actually done better then Dungy. The team was built around one player and when Manning went down so did the team. Fans shouldn’t look to assign blame.

oh well, he's gone and the rest will be history...
Caldwell didn't keep the team winning. Manning did.

And, then when Manning wanted to keep winning, Polian and his puppet pulled the plug.

Huh?

Although manning is the core, you can’t give him credit for the defensive side of the ball, not total credit anyway. Remember the 2009 super bowl run, the colts actually had a number one scoring defense. Who should receive credit for that?? Also pulled the plug I guess you’ve got an interesting take on who’s to blame

The Colts defense sucked as well as their special teams....for years.

They probably were the worst at allowing other teams to make third down conversions. Stats can be skewed many times to support whatever you’re claiming. I’ve seen Caldwell’s failures to adjust to things happening on the field, I’ve seen his time-management (or lack thereof), I’ve seen him stick with things that don’t work, and I’ve seen him conservatively fail to take advantage of his superstar quarterback (like during the final minute of the last super bowl). I’ve seen enough…regardless of how you interpret the stats.

final minute of the first half...
Inconsistent

Cant tell me to ignore my “skewed” interpretation then make one yourself. Besides your point moot as hell

it wasn't built around player

they just drafted poorly, plus they had a boner for tiny players on defense

Eww

your sayign they had a midget fetish?

Can we watch this 4 PM press conference live?

I am dying to watch it

i agree, we need links
Report: Colts request permission from the 49ers to interview with Jim Harbaugh...

BTW: You are NOT allowed to throw bricks at me and I will not beg for foregiveness if my sources are wrong…

Good Lord, I wish this were accurate
They should have made a play for him,

when they had a chance.

My sources told me that Tom Brady will be our new punter next year
Heard that

We will be moving McAfee to Will LB

48 yard average for the season is pretty good

and he doesn’t make politically divisive statements via twitter.

In all seriousness I love McAfee and agree with what he said about the soldiers…

Ditto

Founding Fathe of the McAfee Swim Club right here! LOL J/K

If only it were true...

how perfect it would be.

Completely Necessary

for the rebuilding process and the correct move.

+1 ^^^

A sign there will b ea new era of Colts football

Bittersweet message

You never ever want to see someone so well liked in the organization canned. However “Coach” appeared to be in over his head in certain situations and on occasion it cost the team dearly. I may have said some not so flattering things in the past, but I sincerely hope the guy lands on his feet either within the organization in another capacity or with an organization of HIS choosing. They say nice guys finish last. Working alongside Chris Polian had to be anything but a walk in the park. Still, as coach you have to be accountable for some of the downward spiral that the team experienced. Some of the gaffes were hard to explain, but accepted. The promotion of Curtis Painter and, more importantly, the decision to allow him to remain as starting QB for most of the season was unforgivable.

Good luck Jim.

Caldwell was a good guy

But I always felt he was a ’placeholder" till we rebuilt or founf someone better..

that day is finally at hand

good guy but a bad coach!!!!
I know it's the right move

but I wish him the best. I hope and pray he finds another job.

I think he's going back to Penn state to be QB coach
thank you.......

jim irsay. most of the idiots are gone now

Great news! Now let's just hope Irsay names a donut HC to inspire our players

^^

PRAISE THE LORD

BBS pimped me last night, got me all upset and ruined my evening that is waht makes today better, since I didn’t expect him to be fired THE NEW GM stepped up to the PLATE!!!!!!

So is Tressel going to get an interview?
Tressel's connections

to the Colts were supposedly Caldwell and Polian. I’d say it’s unlikely.

IRSAY is the MAN

AM beyond happy I think he got fired cause I signed the petition and they read my comments!!!!!!!!! LOL

There was a petition?

man do i feel left out

yes BBs had the link last night I was about the 4,999

person to sign it go to his article last night u can be the last to sign it LOL

Wouldnt quite be the same now would it. LOL
The market for Spags is

supposedly heating up. Maybe the Caldwell firing is to pave the way for him. I’d rather have Zimmer or Carmichael, and Spags as a DC, but the timing is certainly interesting.

What's the big deal about Carmichael?

That’s Sean Payton’s offense. They were #1 in offense before he was the OC and now they still are.

Payton hasn't called a single play since his knee injury.

Carmichael is a good coach.

I would

look like a good offensive coordinator with Drew Brees, Sproles, Graham, Colston, Moore, Henderson, and the best offensive line in the NFL. That offensive talent is ridiculous.

I’m more impressed with coaches that do more with less. See guys like Mike Zimmer.

Do you really think he has learnt nothing? It sure is Payton's offense but the OC has to do something
Read my post above.
OK if we don't bring Spagnuolo I would like Zimmer too

But if we do, it would be a better idea to sign an offensive minded coach

I don't think Tressel is our man. If Spag ends up being our DC we should try to get an offensive minded head coach like Pete Carmichael to help Luck
Great post!
Rex Ryan hates this

Why?

Who is going to rest their starters and call awful timeouts against us now?
Peyton will be next.

I hope that Luck is going to be as half as good as advertised. I also hope the Colts know what they are doing. If not the Colts will be in the basement for the next decade.

COLTS DESERVE SOMEONE GOOD !!!!!!!
Press Conference is on now...
Same Treatment for the Weather Man?

I didn’t read ALL the posts here (long thread) so, if I say what someone else has already said, forgive me:

I wonder, do the people that post here to bash BBS do the same to their local weather man when he isn’t 100% accurate? I don’t post here often but I read this blog every day. Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong. Either way, to the best of my knowledge, the information they receive is through other parties. BBS, Stew, et al report what they hear, what they’re told and what they read through a lot of legwork. They go through the trouble to share it with us so we can get all that’s fit to read (and some that isn’t) in one place.

If they’re wrong or misinformed, so be it. It’s more information than I would’ve found way out here in the Pacific Northwest by myself. Give the guys a break. All they’re doing is posting all the information they can find about their favorite team. If it has a bias or slant of some kind, then that’s fine. It’s their blog and they’re entitled to some subjectivity simply because of the time and effort this takes. It’s been said here many times: if you don’t like it, go elsewhere. It IS a free internet (for now) after all.

New GM, new HC, new DC, healthy GOAT: 2012 is gonna ROCK!

If we're using weather men as the bar for accuracy...

we might as well shut it down the internets now. It’s bad enough how inaccurate information is on the interwebz without bringing it down to that level.

^Not Exactly^

What I was getting at … but good point nonetheless. If everything on the internet were true it WOULD be one heck of an interesting world though! Bill Clinton and Bigfoot having a love child, all the fakery on YouTube, ANYTHING believable from Rex Ryan, Elvis is our new ST Coach …

Not setting the bar, just using that as an example. I don’t understand the hatred on here. Start your own blog, do it your way, etc. If you build it, they will come … bearing bricks. Then you’ll see how easy it is to please everyone every time.

Responding to posts BELOW this one: Jon Gruden interests me because he is the anti-Caldwell. There’s a fire in his belly. He shows emotion. He gets pissed. He gets excited. His intensity was reflected by his teams. Maybe he’s not the best there is, but you could tell he gave a damn.

here's hoping

for Jon Gruden. He would be great developing Luck.

Why the love for Gruden??

He’s always talked about being this great developer of QBs, but who has he developed??

Name me one QB that he turned into even a marginal starter?? Gannon and Johnson don’t count – they were veterans when they came to Gruden.

What I remember from him was he collected QBS and could never settle on one. He probably ruined more QBs than the developed. So over-rated.

He's from Sandusky, Ohio

Lol

Looking at his history as a coordinator

He made Bobby Hoying look good enough to earn a starting job in 1998 and he also had a guy you may have heard of in Green Bay. In Tampa, it was obvious the GM wasn’t ever focused on drafting a good QB for Gruden to develop.

Bobby Hoying??

Bobby Hoying?? Really? Bobby Hoying??

I’ll call your guy in Green Bay and raise you a Shawn King, Chris Simms, Bruce Gradkoski, Brian Griese, Marques Tuisasosopo….

Just found a list of QBs that Gruden passed on while he was in Tampa – Flynn, Rodgers, Orton, Cassell, Schaub, Flacco, Garrard and Kolb.

Now look at that list compared to whom he chose…

If he was indeed in on the Spagnuolo interview I believe that would suggest that they changed their minds.

I don’t see Irsay stringing him along so far as that just to see if there is a leak.

Its possible that Spags told Irsay and Grigson privately that

he wouldn’t want to be an assistant of Jim Caldwells’. Maybe that’s what made them reevaluate Caldwell.

Its a damn shame the Colts did not do this earlier

I was more than willing to give caldwell one more chance with a better DC, but if the Colts were going to can Caldwell, which they did, I would have wanted them to acquire Fisher.

There are plenty of good candidates and no silver bullets or saviors
Press conference was about saying nothing in 30 minutes
I did learn something new in the presser conference though.

Grigson said that Caldwell did great things in Indianapolis. I didn’t know that. Now, I know.

Apparently donuts was one of those things
Grammar

Kept saying ‘Me and Mr Irsay.’ Bugs me.

I was thinking the same thing.
Not much of an endorsement of the Highland, Indiana public school system.
True

But here he is as and NFL GM.

True. I applaud him.

I’m anxious to see what his next move is.

I don't care if he's a total illiterate as long as he can evaluate TALENT !!!!
Just another hammer in the coffin

that is Peyton’s career as a Colt. Makes it all the much clearer that he won’t be back.

I'm starting to think the same thing.
Caldwell Fired

HECK YES HE IS! Now I am back for good!

Thank goodness

I haven’t been this excited for an offseason in a LOOOOOOONG time…………….

R.I.P. Tampa 2, 25 yard cushion, undersized Defense!!!!
not to mention,....bad time-out calls, conservative take-no-chances decisions,

starting awful quarterbacks, getting outcoached regularly, etc.

Thoughts on Ryan Grigson

From is 2 pressers I’ve come away with more questions than I had going into them. He provides no info on anything.

He’s been on the job a week and he has yet to talk to Manning. How does this happen? If you miss Manning’s call you hit call back 1251451204 times until he answers.

He is already showing signs of Bill Polian by getting shitty with the media. He’s a good speaker, but a TERRIBLE question answerer.

GRIGSON NO LIKE INDY MEDIA!! GRIGSON SMASH!!!!!!

I think he's still trying to get the lay of the land.

I think he’ll be fine. At least, I hope so.

His grammar sucks but

He can be football smart now and learn to be glib later IMHO. It would be silly for him to reveal his poker hand (read: short list) this early. The Manning issue is a medical one and NOBODY knows yet what that will be in 2 months.

Great job guys

You were right about Polian sarcasm

Blowing up this team will end up biting us in the ass…

keeping the regime together would have been idiotic,...

as monumentally incompetent as they collectively were.

Agreed, but Grigson is starting to look shaky

He just about lost it today and I am still awestruck by the fact that he hasn’t talked to Peyton in the week he’s been on staff. The guy is talking about taking time to review all of the staff and talk with each and every one of them. That’s all fine and good, but how about doing some scouting so we can get this team back on track? I’m concerned he isn’t decisive enough although the Caldwell firing is as decisive as it gets. He doesn’t exude confidence at his TV interviews, although he sounds good on the radio.

I’m not giving up on the guy or even close to that. I’m just starting to get nervous and thinking that maybe while what we had was far from perfect, maybe it was better than what we have coming.

I didn't see the whole press conference.

I missed ten minutes of it and apparently didn’t see the part where he almost ‘lost’ it. I agree about not talking with Peyton. Seems kind of strange.

My thoughts on Grigson are

Hes doing just fine. He doesnt have to sit and have every single answer for every single question involved with this team in his first 2 weeks on the job. Hes been just fine to the media. Look at a guy like Bill Bellichick, he doesnt say ANYTHING in his press conferences, is extremely douchey to the media, yet is handling all the business he needs to behind the scenes. I think people are just quick to complain about anything because in this day and age, we can all voice are opinions so easily and freely.

I get the sense that hes going to do alot of the right things in order to get this franchise back on track. Theres already been good signs. Quit complaining about nothing.

Who cares

if Mr. Grigson doesn’t like the media. I am absolutely digging this dude. Getting rid of Caldwell is absolutely the best thing for this organization and a young QB. Regardless of what happens from this point on, I am happy and looking forward to the new season. Mr. Irsay thank you for replacing the Polians, Mr. Grigson, thank you for letting go of Mr. Caldwell, I wish him the best. I think I will have a drink tonight:):)

i dont know what it is,

But you make me laugh everytime.

So...

Do I still need to have my face submitted for mutilation?

lol - you win some, you lose some.

It was funny that mgrex became the point man though.

You should

frontpage a poll. lol

Thank you

For not demonizing Caldwell and for supporting his character. That being said… I couldn’t be happier about his removal!

There isn't a face for confused???

The times they are a-changin'.

Hopefully this works out for the best.

'bout time

A good thing for this damaged franchise: clean house – construct a new coaching staff – draft a new quarterback (shed an old one). A rebirth is what this team needs to get back to the top of the AFC South. It will take some time, years in fact, as the new king of the division, the Houston Texans, will be very good for a long time to come.
