SB Nation has its latest 2012 Mock Draft out. No surprise, the Colts are taking Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck No. 1 overall. From Ryan Van Bibber:

There is absolutely no suspense around who the first pick in the draft will be, unless you're just getting out of a Turkish prison after the last 13 years. In that case, welcome back; need the number for my psychoanalyst? This pick is already creating considerable intrigue as speculation runs wild about what the Colts will do with Peyton Manning.

While 'mockers' like Ryan continue to link Luck to the Colts, the reality of Luck in blue and white took one step closer to being today when Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal reported that the Stanford product will be represented by Wasserman Media Group for both on-the-field and off-the-field business.

With Jim Caldwell likely to be retained as head coach next year for the Colts, it's unclear if the team will opt to go with Manning or Luck in 2012. Should the team stick with Manning, Wasserman Media Group could convince Luck to leverage the Colts into a trade. It's not like this hasn't happened before.

Peyton's brother Eli Manning leveraged the Chargers to trade him to the Giants on draft day in 2004, and John Elway (another Stanford quarterback) leveraged Jim Irsay's father, Robert, to trade him from the Baltimore Colts to the Denver Broncos in 1984.

No surprise here.

I think the only issue is if they cut ties with Peyton and let Luck run this team from the start. I don’t think having Manning around helps him out at all. Luck needs a very strong offensive coordinator to groom him if Caldwell is returned. The smarter, new era move would be to hire Peter Carmichael or Joe Philbin as head coach………

I'm still hoping

Caldwell coming back is one big mistake.

Also

I think it is a fair trade off. Irsay picks the head coach, Grigson picks the coordinators and coaching staff. It is obvious Irsay is the one behind the madness of retaining Caldwell.

Caldwell Gone

Colts.com just confirmed it. Automatically means two extra wins next year.

Understand this about the draft: nothing is a lock. Especially with the new rookie salary cap.

I honestly don’t think the Colts can keep both. Not because of personality, but because of cap space. Given the choice between Manning and Luck, I’d take Manning.

manning and luck

would take up the same amount of cap space as the qb’s this year

the colts are taking luck. and if manning is healthy, he will be a colt as well

This year, yes. But Manning’s salary balloons next year and the year after and I’m fairly sure the Colts are still on the hook for that money if they release him or he retires. Colts Authority did an excellent study of Manning’s cap situation. Check it out.

manning and rg3

Make manning player/offensive coordinator
