Well, well. It's official: Archie Manning has changed his tune. Again.
Shortly after Archie commented -- a month ago -- that Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck playing on the same team wouldn't be ideal, for either involved, Archie tried to clarify that the remarks were simply his own beliefs and they hadn't came from some long father-to-son talk with Peyton.
Basically, it sounded as if Peyton had ripped his dad a new one for the remarks, causing Archie to backtrack and offer his form of a mea culpa.
Apparently, Archie believes it's time to talk about the future some more.
Now, a month later and less than three months before we learn the fate of his son, Archie has officially flipped the script and jumped onto the "Luck and Peyton can co-exist!" bandwagon. After an appearance at an awards show in New Orleans, Archie proclaimed, "without a doubt" that his son and Andrew Luck could co-exist if Luck is drafted, as expected.
What a surprise... Funny how people's opinions "change", isn't it?
Along with his newest Manning v. Luck declaration, Archie reconfirmed the thoughts of his son, in which Peyton admitted that he was disappointed about Bill Polian's departure. Also, according to Archie, Peyton remains committed to coming to the Colts in 2012, despite the newly initiated rebuilding phase.
Wait, what? I thought Peyton didn't talk to Archie about his future?
Strange, but not really.
We all know that Peyton speaks to his dad about the future, regardless of what Archie says. That's what a father and son are supposed to do... The Manning family is tight-knit and it would only be natural for Peyton to spitball with his paps about what the future may hold. His little brother too.
We also know that Archie has direct communication with the Luck family, as he stated, making his original comments about the two not being able to co-exist seem authentic in nature. Peyton always says the right things, so maybe Peyton was afraid of how he would be perceived in the future due to Archie's comments.
Who friggin' knows, at this point.
I'm just going to operate under the assumption that Archie knows what he's talking about when it comes to his son, even though he may sound like the occasional attention seeker.
Will the result be a happy ending for the Manning and Luck family? Let's hope so.

Daddy issues
I know Archie is just being a dad and doing dad stuff for his kids (and yes, I’m a dad myself), but if I were Peyton I think I would have to tell him to just keep his mouth shut on the whole thing. Just don’t say anything.
The whole thing about Archie being the mouthpiece for everything Manning in the NFL kinda bothers me. Peyton and Eli are big boys, why can’t they handle they handle their own business? To me, the more Archie talks the more it looks bad for Peyton and Eli.
Peyton or Eli said something, but hey, let’s go ask their dad and really get the story!!
The media are the ones that keep running to Archie but it’s only because they know he’s got loose lips.

People are allowed to change their opinions, aren't they?
Even if he were told by Peyton to back off his comments, I’d still like to believe that a person can change his mind on a particular subject without being admonished. Sure, it makes pigeonholing their point of view harder to do for the media, but I think that’s easy enough to get past if you’re good at your job.

Great Coverage!
Personally, I am going to wait until I see PM and his doctor standing at a podium saying he is 100% healthy and PM stating that either a.) he is willing to redo a 1yr contract for less pay so he can have a retirement tour in 2012 or b.) he says he is good to go long term and is planning to play 4-5 more years.
Otherwise I will be cheering both for the Luck era to begin immediately and for Peyton to end his career with a SB elsewhere!

Nothing changed.
All Archie ever said was that he didn’t think it wasn’t the greatest scenario (individually) for Peyton and Andrew to be on the same team (which I think is rather obvious).
Archie never said that Peyton and Andrew couldn’t (or wouldn’t) play together. The media just jumped to wild conclusions. Imagine that…

Let’s tone down the sensitivity a notch or two lol. It’s a feeling based upon how Archie changed his opinion within the length of a single day. Archie tried to clarify his comments about the situation, stating that he thought the radio station was “asking whether Luck should sit or play.”

I've heard the interviews
and Archie has said consistently that he doesn’t know what Peyton wants and hasn’t talked to him about whether he is okay with the Colts drafting Luck. He just says that they could co-exist in his opinion. There has been a lot of word twisting going on and I keep hearing words out of Archie’s mouth as if they came from Peyton’s. This article by both the writer and blogger mean nothing. In my opinion Archie has been consistent and the only thing that has changed is how people have interpreted his words…

Archie has been 100% accurate so far. Luck needs to play from day 1. Peyton needs to play if healthy.
It’s not the best situation for either one. Putting so much money into one position isn’t good for the Colts, it ties Manning up for at least 3 years which likely means Luck is on the bench for 3 years.
They can co-exist because they both will be professional about it.
He hasn’t said one word that is out of line and I doubt he has said one word that Peyton himself isn’t comfortable with.

I hope Peyton does play again for 1 year
But Wayne and Clark should go. Any reciever he throws to that can catch will look good with him. We saw this year that they are nothing without Peyton. Even Blair White put up numbers when he played last year, enough said.

Ok, maybe not shrill, but grossly speculative (see: “ripped a new one”). I’m not sure I’d want to interview with this blog, which is pretty merciless when BBS believes you’re withholding info that he thinks he’s entitled to, or if you should change your tune from one week to the next. I think I’d go the route of Kurt Godel, the mathematician-logician who strove to never say anything false, and so often merely left sentences unfinished.

I say since they got rid of the head coach who really didn’t do anything anyway, and peyton was the one calling the plays and trying to help all year. Lets make Peyton the head coach so he can teach Andrew as many secrets as he can, some can’t be taught as it just comes natural to peyton, but it would be very sad to see peyton leave, and we all know that his injury could get him really hurt for life, and of course every other team out there knows that so you know if he plays again there gonna be all over him to get him out of the game. Peyton could take the colts to the playoffs every year as a coach and the colts would be stupid not to think of this
